Blog MVP’s

Blogs should be easy for non-code-savvy content creators. They should meet these basic requirements:

  • In-line editing tools that appear when i want them, disappear when I don’t.

  • Spell-check.

  • Grammar check.

  • Flexible components, including galleries, slideshows, carousels, and intuitive design and placement of all elements.

  • Drag and drop to place components above, below, on the side, or inline.

  • Categories so that a blog post can appear in specific locations, such as the Blog Roll, or as Did You Knows, or as Knowledgebase articles.

  • Easy keywording.

  • Advanced SEO that provides a preview of how the blog will appear in search results.

  • Site-wide Styles.

Let’s take a look at how Squarespace handles some of these.

Inline Editing

As I type, a formatting panel appears so that I can quickly make changes to text. When I finish typing, the panel disappears.

Here it the image description. Directly in the blog.

Additionally, I can make other edits directly in the blog, like adding an image description or adjusting the focal point of an image.

Drag and Drop Content

I can drop content into the workspace, resize it directly, and move it to other sections, including inline.

Spell and Grammar Check

Built-in spell check and intergration with Grammarly for quick editing.

Flexible Components

I can create individual gallaeries of images then apply different ways to view each on the blog page:

Here is the same gallery, displayed differently:

Focal Point marking

So that I can easily resize images and make sure that the important parts adjust to responsively across all platform types.

Site-Wide Stying

Easily add, change, and personalize themes for site and for pages.

Design Different Blog Pages for Different Uses

Blog, Did-You-Know tips, User Guide, etc. Use built-in summary blocks, tag clouds, and keyword searches.
