Life in Death Valley

Zabriskie Point rises above the Mesquite Flat sand dunes

One of the reasons I keep coming back to this place is to see life. Yes, life. The valley is teeming with creatures - from humans (mostly of the European and Asian variety, so it seems) to the beetles and bugs that inhabited my motel room.  And the vegetation, though sparse, shouts “I’m alive” just as much as a dense jungle. And the sands, shifted daily by the winds, are a sign as to why we are alive in the first place - thanks to our moon (and our moms).

Another thing I love about Death Valley is that it’s real. There’s nothing made-up here. And down in the valley, you can escape everything out there. The noise and the chatter of our world disappears. The divisions un-divide.

We’re all in this together, folks.
